Without drinks Christmas is no joy. Merry is indeed made by liquids and one of them is Sorrel juice.
Sorrel Juice makes count down no. 2 as it’s the most common juice to be made in Trinidad around the Xmas holidays and its richness of red sparkling color makes it an ideal drink for Christmas.
Sorrel Juice Recipe
1.5 lb fresh sorrel flowers
8 cups water
1 cinnamon stick
2 pieces of dried orange peel
4 cloves
Thick slice of ginger
Sugar
Method
Remove the core from the sorrel flowers and discard. Then place all ingredients in a large pot, cover with water and bring to a boil. Reduce to a gentle simmer for about 30 minutes. Then remove from heat, cover and let it steep for a few hours. Double strain with a very fine strainer or cheese cloth. Then chill and sweeten to your likeness.
Health Benefits of Sorrel
Sorrel contains tannin a potent property that reduces swelling of the nasal passage and of the respiratory tract which make it ideal for bronchitis patients. Moreover, it aids with fluid retention and boosts the immune system.
Explicitly sorrel juice is a traditional and prevalent Xmas drink in Trinidad and Tobago, what is yours at your home country?
