CARIBBEAN PASTELLE RECIPE.

Christmas is no fun when there is nothing exciting to eat . Especially foods  without flavors, temptation or  no distinction. We all love our belly and love great tasty surprises.

Pastelle is another main dish that is served in the Caribbean during the Xmas season and makes the count down no.3 to Xmas eve’s list  by its surprising nature. If you have never heard or tried pastelle, a Caribbean treat. It is made of corn and it holds a taste of bliss that is trapped inside. This is its surprise and what it holds can be anything of which the Cook prefers. From vegetables to meats: pork and beef are mainly used. But for the best of health, beef and spinach will be a part of this recipe’s surprise.

 Beef Spinach Pastelle

Fillings

2 cups of spinach or bhaji, blanched

1/4 cup raisins

1/4 tomatoes sauce

1 Carrot

Soy bean oil

3 gloves of garlic

1 onion

6 pimientos

1 or 2 shano beni

1 chive

1/2 lb of ground beef

Water

Dough

2 cups  grade A cornmeal

3 cups of lukewarm water

4 tbsp of vegetable oil or olive oil

Sea salt for taste.

Wrapping

2-3 fig (banana) leaves

String to tie
